Where Are We on the
Girl-Centered Design Journey?

1. Do you prioritize designing corporate policies, programs, spaces, activities, events or content by considering all children, especially girls?
2. Do you take into account the diverse circumstances, needs and expectations of girls, which are unique because they are girls?
3. Do you take the girls’ opinions into account when doing this?
4. Do you allocate resources to include girls of various ages and backgrounds in the activities? (e.g., allocating resources - experts, translators, programs, etc. - to enable girls with disabilities to participate in your activities)
5. When organizing an event, do you consider whether girls can easily access the venue?
6. When determining the event time, do you consider the time slots when girls can attend?
7. Do you have measures to prevent your work from creating new risks for girls or to mitigate harm?
8. Do you have special measures to ensure that girls feel good and safe?
9. Are you developing these measures together with the girls?
10. Do you take care to include diverse experiences and perspectives of girls in your communication efforts?
11. Do you take care to ensure that the representations of girls in the content and communication materials you produce do not reproduce gender stereotypes?
12. Do you support and strengthen the capacity and competencies of the adults you work with such as your team members and the representatives of partner or affiliated organizations, to engage with and work effectively with girls?
